Other Treatments - Detox

Detox has become increasingly popular in recent years as a quick-fix way of cleansing or purging the body of the toxins and waste products that supposedly build up in our systems from eating too much processed and refined foods.
Detoxing your body can help to boost your energy levels. It also reduces cravings by cutting out the foods that are hard to digest and metabolise which normally cause your blood sugar levels to rise and fall dramatically, resulting in hunger pangs and tiredness. A Detox can also give you healthier skin, boost your immune system and help to treat digestive disorders
When trying to detox your body, it is not only important for you to be aware of what foods you should be eating, but also to be aware of what you shouldn’t eat. As well as eating the right food, it is essential to eat and drink the right way. Take the time to chew food well, especially grains, but do not drink liquids around mealtime.
Detox Tips - Preperation
- Reduce caffeine and alcohol intake a few days before you start your detox
- Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water per day
- Drink 3 - 5 cups of Green Tea a day
- Buy a detox book or pick out some tasty recipes to cook so you don't get stuck for ideas
- Go shopping in advance. This way, you will have the right foods at hand when you feel ‘peckish’
- Tell all your friends and family what you are doing in advance. If they know how serious you are, they are less likely to offer you a pint of beer or a bar of chocolate
